25 Christmas Prayers – Day 15

Today is the 15th in a series of daily Christmas blogs: 25 Christmas Prayers celebrating the names of our precious Lord. Featured today is Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide. I hope these simple prayer blogs will enrich your Christmas season and draw you closer to the One who is the real reason for Christmas. (I’ll be returning to my regular, weekly posts after Christmas).

Lord, how foolishly we worry about what we’ll eat, or what we’ll wear. At times we allow the future to loom as a threat and not a joy.

But a loving Father God does not ignore the cries of His children. If you gave Your only Son for us, the very best possible provision of Your love, will You not also provide our every need? You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Will Provide.

The Lord Will Provide

When we have true needs, You’ve told us to ask…and we will receive. Fretting and worrying limits our faith, and even our creativity. You bless our hands, the “fruit of our vines,” and fill our tables with heaven’s provision. No need escapes Your wary eye. No want goes unmet. And You love to surprise us!

You Provided the Lamb

Just like You provided the lamb for Abraham as a substitute for his son and as a foreshadowing of Your own Son’s sacrificial death, You are our Jehovah-Jireh. To those who receive Jesus as the true, sacrificial lamb of God, You give the right and privilege to become Your children. But eternal life is not all You provide.

From morning until evening, Lord, You chase us with Your blessings. You feed us with Your Daily Bread. And You sustain us with Your strength and love. Forgive us when we fail to see Your provision and when we forget to acknowledge You as the Source. We need so little; yet You give so much.

This Christmas, whether wealthy or poor, we celebrate You, our Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Will Provide, as the only One who knows exactly what we need. We reaffirm our trust in You. How wisely You provide! How can we thank You enough?

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” Genesis 22:8 NIV

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. Genesis 22:14 KJV

What About You?

How has Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide, met your needs this year? I’d love for you to share.

Oh how I miss you! This encouragement was just what I needed this evening. We need to move and it just seems impossible. Renting is too expensive and we don’t have a down payment to buy. I was beginning to fret and worry. I don’t know why. God has provided for us in some really big ways. I don’t know how He is going to do it, but I know that He will provide for us. Please pray for me that I will continue to have the faith in Him that He wants from me.

Chrystal, I miss you guys, too! We have been in your situation many times over the past years of ministry, and like you, God has always provided for us. It hasn’t always been on our timetable, and it certainly wasn’t the way we figured it would happen. Sometimes there was hardship involved, but only for a season. And I remember one time when God totally surprised us with an answer only He could think of! I am praying that your faith will be steadfast and unshakeable, and that God will surprise you with His answers. (He’s always on time–His time). Someone once gave me this verse when we were in the same situation as you: “Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young–a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God” (Psalm 84:3 NIV). That verse didn’t sink in until later, but then I understood. If God provided for the sparrow….. :) Thanks for writing!

Thank you again for your wonderful encouragement. To be reminded that God provided the lamb to Abraham and also provided the sacrificial Lamb to us – how timely. As well as the sparrow being provided for, we are reminded about the lillies of the fields, how wonderfully they are clothed to glorify Him. It has been a tough year but being squeezed by our circumstances brings out the best, like the virgin cold pressed oil. That is my offering back to Him. Love and blessings Rebecca.
