25 Christmas Prayers – Day 15

by Rebecca Barlow Jordan

Today is the 15th in a series of daily Christmas blogs: 25 Christmas Prayers celebrating the names of our precious Lord. Featured today is Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide. I hope these simple prayer blogs will enrich your Christmas season and draw you closer to the One who is the real reason for Christmas.

The Lord will provide - 25 Christmas Prayers - Day 15Day 15 – Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide

Lord, how foolishly we worry about what we’ll eat, or what we’ll wear. At times we allow the future to loom as a threat and not a joy.

But a loving Father God does not ignore the cries of His children. If You gave Your only Son for us, the very best possible provision of Your love, will You not also provide our every need? You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Will Provide.

The Lord Will Provide

When we have true needs, You’ve told us to ask…and we will receive. Fretting and worrying limits our faith, and even our creativity. You bless our hands, the “fruit of our vines,” and fill our tables with heaven’s provision. No need escapes Your wary eye. No want goes unmet. And You love to surprise us!

You Provided the Lamb

Just like You provided the lamb for Abraham as a substitute for his son and as a foreshadowing of Your own Son’s sacrificial death, You are our Jehovah-Jireh. To those who receive Jesus as the true, sacrificial lamb of God, You give the right and privilege to become Your children. But eternal life is not all You provide.

From morning until evening, Lord, You chase us with Your blessings. You feed us with Your Daily Bread. And You sustain us with Your strength and love. Forgive us when we fail to see Your provision and when we forget to acknowledge You as the Source. We need so little; yet You give so much.

This Christmas, whether wealthy or poor, we celebrate You, our Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Will Provide, as the only One who knows exactly what we need. We reaffirm our trust in You. How wisely You provide! How can we thank You enough?

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” Genesis 22:8 NIV

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh (Genesis 22:14 KJV).

How has Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide, met your needs this year?
