Promise for Today: A Light in the Darkness

by Rebecca Barlow Jordan

light darkness - Jesus still lights the darkness.

Ever been through a dark time in your life? I have. It’s not particularly fun, is it? You don’t have to live through a power outage to know what it’s like to live in the darkness. Most of us have experienced that at one time or another.

If you remember a time of spiritual or emotional darkness, or if you are there right now, you will appreciate this powerful promise from Jesus. It’s packed with grace, hope, forgiveness, and love.

“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the darkness” John 12:46 NLT.

Some have lived in darkness so long they’ve given up ever finding the light. Others long for even a small pinhole to penetrate their “dark” world right now.

If that’s you, this promise is definitely for you. Jesus came for that very reason: to be a light that shines in a dark world–your world. Need some Son Light? You don’t have to stay in the dark. Jesus will be your light. However, He requires your trust in Him.

At times, you may see only that pinhole. But little by little as you trust Him more, He will lead you into the Light–to Himself. When you trust Him, even in your temporary darkness, you can “see” and “sense” God’s activity in your life and find hope to keep moving closer to the Light.

Let His Light Shine

And when He lights up your world, don’t stop there. Keep shining that Light everywhere you go. If we remember what the dark was like, how can we keep His light to ourselves?

Need a little light in your marriage? Check out this post.

My Prayer for You

Jesus, someone needs Your “Son-Light” today. Shine your light into hearts that are struggling to see. Light the path ahead, even if it’s one step at a time. Help us remember our times of darkness, so we can help others to find You. Thank you for being our light in a dark world.

Day-votedly Yours,

Rebecca

How has Jesus been your light in the darkness?
