“I’m in LOVE.”
“Let’s stay in love forever!”
“Do you still love me?”
“How do I know you really love me?”
“I don’t know if I love you anymore.”
From the moment we utter our first cry on earth, we crave love. And for those who are married, the moment we say, “I do,” expectations grow in our hearts like persistent weeds in a garden. And even for singles, the need for confirmation of love never ceases. We want to feel loved, to know we are lovable, and to be assured that love is real and will last.
Valentine’s Day stirs up a bundle of those emotions. And gifts, tangible expressions of affection, can help make us feel loved, whether it’s a gift from a friend or from your spouse.
But one day out of the year, or a few other gift-giving occasions will never satisfy our longing for love. Even the most satisfying relationships can’t meet our deepest needs. We were created to love, and we are needy for love. That’s the way God wired us. We do our best, but our flaws and weaknesses prevent all of us from completely and unselfishly loving others the way we truly want to. But is there anyone who can offer us unconditional, unfailing love?
Enter our faithful Father.
I love His many promises in the Bible. This is one of my favorites:
Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens. PSALM 89:2 NLT
His love IS unconditional. He is the One whose unfailing love never ends.
Most of us can quote John 3:16. But the Bible is filled with assurances of God’s unconditional, unfailing, and unending love. After researching so many of those verses, I can almost hear Him assuring us:
Does God Really Offer Unfailing Love?
“My child, do you know how much I really love you? Have you questioned my heart at times? Most people gauge love by their emotions. But My love reflects My character. I don’t love you one day and then hate you the next. My love mirrors My faithful commitment to you. How much do I love you? How much do I love the entire world?
“I went to great lengths to prove My unchangeable love for you, to convince you that I wanted you as My child. I sent My one and only Son to earth with an eternal message, indelibly written with His blood on a splintered cross. He bore your sins and provided your healing. I will always be the One who loves you and the entire world. My Son gave His life for your life—for the whole world. Nail-scarred hands, opened wide, every cry of agony echoed: ‘I did it for you!'”
Unfailing Love Is Part of God’s Character
“Remember that unfailing love and faithfulness are part of My character. Will I fail you? Will I leave you to work out your life on your own? Am I dependable? Keep remembering that I am the One whose unfailing love never ends. Faithful is who I am. And faithfulness is what I do. Everything serves its purpose in My eyes. The world as you know it today is like a theater with changing scenes and characters. It will soon pass away and the hurt and pain with it. But My unfailing love is like an eternal sunrise that never goes down. My love for you is without borders. It knows no limits. I am the One whose unfailing love never ends. My love is forever.”¹
For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 AMP
How could anyone resist that kind of love? Not me. Can you?
What kind of grateful response would you offer to your faithful Father when you understand how much He loves you?
