Does our vote really matter? Can we–or prayer–help turn the tide of our nation? How do we pray for our country and its leaders, current and future? And for whom do we vote?
Why a Prayer?
I never blog about political issues and won’t do so now. But my heart is so burdened for our country and our leadership. We’ve moved so far away from the God who loves us and from the country He so intended us to be. The same God who sent His own Son to die for us is still in control. He still loves us and wants to give us wisdom and direction. In a spirit of deep humility, shouldn’t we seek His face and His mind?
Prayer changes things–and prayer changes us. And it’s the one thing we can and must do all the time, but especially as the election of our country’s leadership draws close. If you need help with what to pray, here’s a sample prayer I wrote. Because of its length, you’ll find it here on crosswalk.
Take Time for Prayer
I hope you’ll take the time no only to read it, but to pray. Pray those words, or your own. What God hears is our hearts as we humble ourselves before Him. Because we’re praying not just for our nation and our leaders; we’re praying for our own healing as well, and that He will change our hearts to be like His.
Pray without ceasing, (2 Thessalonians 5:17).
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land, (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV)

Then let’s join together and pray–and believe!
Will you commit to pray for our leaders and our country? Are you willing for God to change your heart if necessary? What else can we pray for ourselves, our leaders, and our country?
