25 Christmas Prayers – Day 9

by Rebecca Barlow Jordan

Today is the ninth in a series of daily Christmas blogs: 25 Christmas prayers celebrating the names of our precious Lord. I truly hope these simple blogs will enrich your Christmas season and will draw you closer to the One who is the true reason for Christmas.God Most High - El Elyon - 25 Christmas Prayers - Day 9

Day 9 – El Elyon, God Most High

El Elyon, our God Most High, when gusty winds are blowing around us, make our foundations strong. Rebuild our courage and strengthen our might when everything goes wrong.

How we need You to repair the broken places and to fill the gaping holes in our soul! Life’s disappointments can leave us in despair, disillusioned, and depressed.

Father, God Most High, Protect Your Children

Father, in this Christmas season of joy, protect Your children from those who want to harm and destroy. Just like an eagle spreading its wings to shade her offspring, come spread Your arms around us. There, under heaven’s wings, we can rest under Your shadow, away from the scorching heat of the sun, protected from the eyes of stalking enemies.

You Know What Is Good for Us, El Elyon, our God Most High

This Christmas we celebrate You as El Elyon, the God Most High. Knowing that you will allow into our lives only the things that will be for our ultimate good, encourages our hearts. With You, Lord, we are safe.

When Bad Things Happen, God Most High Is Sovereign

But what about bad things that happen? Lord, where is Your protection then? As God Most High, You are sovereign. You number our days–and the hairs on our heads. You know Your plans for us–and they are not to harm us, but to do good.

We can trust You, knowing that the work You gave us–and that You intended for us to do–will be accomplished and finished. When we rest under the shadow of the Most High, we are protected–until that work is done. Perhaps the hardest part, Lord, is understanding what Your “work” for us includes–and when that work is finished–according to Your timetable.

God Most High, Your Nest Is Best

Help us this Christmas to rest in Your “nest,” believing that El Elyon, our God Most High, has complete control of our past, present, and future.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1 NIV).
