Today’s name, Alpha and Omega, is the eighth in a series of daily Christmas blogs: 25 Christmas prayers celebrating the names of our precious Lord. I truly hope these simple blogs will enrich your Christmas season and draw you closer to the One who is the true reason for Christmas.
Day 8 – The Alpha and the Omega
Lord, how you must smile when you hear a child ask, “But who is God, and where does He come from?”
Who Are You, God?
You are the Beginning. You are the One who created everything. You are the One who started time, and You are the One who will stop it. The mystery that began for us as children continues even as adults. Who can understand the “Word made flesh?” Who can fathom that our God wrapped Himself in the cloths of a baby and revealed Himself to the world through a virgin birth?
As Alpha and Omega You Are “Otherworldly”
No wonder human minds hunt for scientific facts, realistic proof, and unalterable truths about who You are! You are not like us. You are “otherworldly.” You are not a figment of someone’s imagination. You are not the result of a big-bang explosion. From the beginning, You have always existed. You are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. And You can only be “seen” or “known” by faith.
You Are the Word Made Flesh
Because the Word was made flesh and now lives among us–through Jesus–we no longer ask the question, “Who are You, God? And where did You come from?” Though we don’t understand, we honor You, Lord, and bow at Your feet in wonder. Through faith in the One who has made all things possible, we now know who You are–and who Jesus is. And those of us who know You can’t stop talking about You.
God, today we pray for those who desire to know You and who want to believe in You, but who are struggling. Pull back the curtains of unbelief. Shine Your light on dark hearts, so faith can reach out to You this Christmas. Time is short, and the need is great.
We Celebrate You, Alpha and Omega
This Christmas we celebrate You, Lord, as the Alpha and the Omega, as the Word made flesh. May we always make room for You to live freely in our hearts.
