Who is your employer? Most of us would name a company, an organization, or an individual unless we’re self-employed. But what if you made God your employer? Would anything change?
God Your Employer
The reality is that if you are a true follower of Jesus, God is your employer, no matter who hands you a paycheck every week or month. What would happen if we performed our jobs as if we were working for Him alone? Would we find a new joy and satisfaction and less room for worry and complaints?
Maybe we’d cease to look for accolades from others, knowing that He is One we are to please. Would we remember to keep our eyes and ears turned heavenward to help us remember our purpose in life and to continue faithfully in the tasks assigned to us? Perhaps we’d worry less about being under-appreciated and care more about making a difference in others.
When working for earthly employers, we’re tempted to look at short-term benefits instead of the long-term assignment. It’s easy to steep ourselves in issues of unfairness and to blame others. Our purpose is to know God, to reflect His image, and to faithfully bring Him glory, no matter what the circumstances.
God Your Employer Gives Steadfastness
Although our body and emotions may want to a raise flag of surrender at times, God, our heavenly employer provides the strength to keep going. He enables us to choose a path of steadfastness–not a get-by-mode–but always giving Him our all until our mission and purpose on earth are completed.
And to God, our true employer, our work always matters. His “well-done” is better than any earthly paycheck we will ever receive.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless (1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT).
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people, knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve (Colossians 3:23-24 NASB).
My Personal Prayer for You
Lord, what a wonderful employer You are! Thank You for giving each of us a job to do. Help us to live each day as we if were working for You, and You, alone, and not just an earthly employer. Help us to reflect Your character wherever we go, and in whatever we do. May others see Jesus in us because of that reflection.
And a special prayer today, Lord, for those who are currently unemployed and receive no earthly paycheck. Meet their deepest needs today. You are our Jehovah-Provider. Let them know that their Heavenly Employer will never leave them or forsake them. Help all of us to be steadfast in the work You give us!
Day-votedly Yours,
Rebecca
