Have you ever needed prayer for comfort? We all have, at one time or another. And we all know someone or have heard of others who desperately need peace and comfort in their lives right now.
We do what we can to help others, using both the natural and spiritual gifts God has given us. All of us give what we have. We stay in touch, and we share our love. But our hearts ache to do more to ease the excruciating pain and discomfort of broken lives and interrupted dreams.
You may be cleaning up the aftermath of a hurricane or flood, revisiting the charred ruins of a home, saying goodbye to a loved one, or trying to cope with a new normal that keeps changing in our world. Comfort is a universal need.
But so is prayer.
You may be one of those I’ve just described, and you are craving comfort for your life. You want God’s intervention and long for hope to rise from the ashes of your heart. Whether you need it for yourself or someone you know, here is a prayer for comfort that might help:
Prayer for Comfort
Lord, I’m praying today for Your comfort in the lives of those who need it most. You know the circumstances we all face, and you understand our hurts and our need for peace and comfort. Thank you for being our Blessed Comforter and our Peace. Touch those who are facing unbelievable challenges right now. Ease the burdens of those whose arms are sagging beneath the weight of heavy loads.
Refresh the Weary
Refresh the weary and encourage the downhearted. Wrap your arms around those whose hearts feel empty with losses but heavy with crosses that seem too difficult to bear. Remind them that you will birth new dreams. Nothing is too difficult for you. You will shower hurting lives with a downpour of your precious blessings and joy once again.
Breathe New Life
Breathe new life into discouraged spirits with your precious Holy Spirit’s comfort. Let each person feel Your presence in amazing ways. Assure them you are walking with them through the fires, through the floods, through the sicknesses, and the unspeakable losses in their lives. Help them to know they are not alone as they grieve their losses, both big and small ones.
Thank you for your patience and gentleness with those whose lives feel overwhelmed and on the brink of despair. Help them to be patient with themselves and to cling tightly to your hand daily. May your promises fill their hearts with hope for the future and peace in their spirits.
Intercede for Us
When we can’t find the words to pray, take over, Lord. Intercede for us, and pray through us as we offer our prayer for comfort to others. Help us to be instruments of hope to others, as we share the comfort you have already given to us.
We need you, Lord. With you, all things are possible. Thank you that your comfort is real and that you give it generously when we ask.
May your unfailing love be my comfort (Psalm 199:76 NIV).
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you (Isaiah 66:13 NIV).
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV).
