Recently, I asked readers on my Facebook profile page what their morning prayer for Monday would be. Their answers varied:
- “Peace and love”
- “Fill me Lord and let me shine for you.”
- “Let me be more like you Lord.”
- “Thankful for all my blessings and pleas for good health for myself”
-
“Thank you for the new day and new week. Help me to see the new possibilities and opportunities.”
- “I’m just thankful for one more day!”
God Hears Our Prayers
No doubt those are prayers to offer daily, not just on Mondays. And God hears our prayers whether we shout, “Good morning, Lord!” or groan, “Lord, is it another morning?” Short or sweet, long or labored, God loves to hear our voice and our prayers, especially in the morning. But what if we looked at those early moments with God as a morning prayer offering to Him?
Before busy lifestyles try to steal our time and energy, we can spend a few moments with God every day. If He offers us new mercies and compassions with each sunrise, then in an attitude of gratitude and worship, we can offer our lives to Him in prayer every morning. To help you begin your day with joy and purpose, here is a morning prayer offering you can pray to God:
A Morning Prayer to Pray Each Day
Lord, I’m coming to you with my personal morning prayer offering. I worship you today and want to give you praise for another day of life. As I begin to think about your amazing grace and for all you have done on my behalf, I am overwhelmed with joy. Your love draws me into your sweet presence the moment my eyes open. Even when sleepiness tries to pull me back under the covers, your tug on my heart awakens me to start the day right with you.
A Gift of Gratitude
This morning I offer back to you this day and my life as a gift of gratitude. You deserve the best, and I want to give you all that I have and am in a fresh new way. Write on my heart the lessons you want to teach me today. Fill my mouth with your words and thoughts, not mine. I long to live this day for you, with my affections set on things above, not focusing on worries here on earth.
Morning Prayer Offering of a Living Sacrifice
You gave your life for me, an offering of death to pay the penalty of my sin. In return, I long to make your heart happy by offering my life as a living sacrifice to you. Some days I feel like I have so little to offer, yet you know my heart. You created me, and you love me just as I am. You require nothing from me but faith because your love is a gift with no strings attached. I can’t earn it, and I can’t buy it. But, Lord, out of a deep love for you, I desire to live for you today in such a way that encourages others. I want to bless you as well as those who cross my path. If I give to others with mercy and compassion, you’ve said it’s the same as giving to you.
Here Is My Life
So accept my morning prayer offering today, Lord. May my life be a sweet fragrance to you, as I seek to follow you, to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as myself. Use my mouth, my mind, my hands, and my feet— all of me — as instruments of your peace. May I be a light in the darkness for others or simply a pitcher of kindness poured out for you.
Here is my life; here are my talents. My gifts are yours to do with as you please. Order my steps today; guard my thoughts; and bathe my actions with thoughtfulness and goodness, so others can see your reflection in me. I trust you; I wait for you, and I listen for your voice. Your strength is all I need. With eagerness, I begin this day and offer my life to live for you, any way you want.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Our Morning Prayer Offering Is a Reflection
When we start the day by offering our lives to God, it’s a reflection of the God-shaped desire He placed in our hearts to honor Him. It’s a way of saying, “This day belongs to you, Lord, not me.” By doing this, we reflect Jesus’ example, who arose early for prayer. Our prayer offering is a God-shaped mirror that pictures His love investment in us—and His sacrifice on the Cross for us.
What the Bible Says about Offering Our Lives to God
The Bible says God doesn’t require our death as a sacrifice. He paid the ultimate price for our sin, which the Old Testament foreshadowed repeatedly. God wants us to give ourselves to Him completely as living sacrifices. By offering ourselves to live for Him, we demonstrate how we were once dead in our sins, and now as true believers, we have new life. Our whole body is to be used not as an instrument for sin but as the temple of the Holy Spirit to do good and right, so we can give God the glory He deserves.
8 Bible Verses about Starting Your Morning with Prayer
Psalm 5:3 NIV: In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 59:16 NLT: Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
Psalm 88:13 VOICE: But I am calling out to You, Eternal One. My prayers rise before You with every new sun!
Psalm 119:147 TLB: Early in the morning before the sun is up, I am praying and pointing out how much I trust in you.
Psalm 130:5 MSG: I pray to God—my life a prayer— and wait for what he’ll say and do.
Isaiah 26:9 VOICE: When morning comes, I seek You with all my heart.
Mark 1:35 NIV: Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Romans 12:1 NIV: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
When we offer our lives to God through obedience, He and His Word will transform us and renew our minds, allowing us to discern His will. As we refuse to conform to the world’s standards but instead trust God to work through us, our offering becomes a true act of worship. By offering this morning prayer offering at the beginning of our day we agree with God and His power to transform us—and our day—into a true sacrifice of praise. It’s a beautiful way to show God how much we love Him.
