Sometimes the things we hold dear slip through our fingers like shifting sand.
Life changes overnight, and fear wells up like an oil well about to spew.
And you’re left, wondering. What happened? What now?
When the future suddenly seems uncertain, where is your security?
How will you answer the questions: What will tomorrow bring? What will today bring? How will I cope?
When the Future Seems Uncertain, Where Is Your Security?
How do you handle uncertainty? Where will you turn when life, as you’ve known it, takes a detour?
You can pull into a shell and hope things will get better.
You can allow anxiety to rule your heart and feed it daily with irrational fear.
But here are four things you might consider:
Four Things to Do When the Future Seems Uncertain
- Release your worries, anxieties, and fears into God’s hands.
- Rest your body, mind, and spirit, asking Jesus to fill you with inner peace.
- Reaffirm God’s care for you and His desire to meet all your needs.
- Revitalize your relationship with God as you place the future and your trust in Him.
God is still the One who holds tomorrow. He sees the bigger picture, and He’s always thinking of His children. Our knowledge is incomplete, but He knows exactly what will unfold. This world is not our home, but those whose security is in the hands of Jesus will one day enjoy the new home that He is preparing for us. Until then, we can rest in Him.
When the future seems uncertain, we can cry out to our faithful Father:
Lord, sometimes it seems there is so little I can do, especially when life is such a puzzle. You are the only One who knows what will happen in the days to come. But my hope is in this: Your wisdom, protection, and love are more powerful than the evil forces on earth. And because I belong to You, I will not fear the future. Your goodness and mercy pursue me daily. I am safe, trusting You in all things, whether they appear to be good or not. Thank You that You are the One who holds tomorrow and the future in Your hands.¹
In Jesus’ name,
Rebecca
So why would I fear the future? Only goodness and tender love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you (Psalm 23:6 TPT)!
Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me completely (1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT).
Trust in him at all times, you people: pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge (Psalm 62:8 NIV).
But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands (Psalm 31:14-15 NLT).
