Do you have a simple motto for your life? Something that inspires you to live purposefully? A truth that challenges you to stay on track? Mottos are different than mission statements, and we may often use several to encourage us. It could be a quote, a prayer, or even one word. If you’re looking for a simple motto to challenge you daily, today’s post might be just for you.
When I first started writing greeting cards years ago, I soon learned to avoid some overused rhyming words. These familiar words usually netted instant rejects. I’m talking about rhymes like way, say, and day. Easy to remember, but hard to sell. Eventually, I used a rhyming dictionary to keep those verses fresh and new.
But the other day I was thinking about a simple way to challenge my day each morning when I awake. A simple motto or prayer? What could I say? Hmm. Okay, so I still think in rhyme occasionally.
And then it hit me. The perfect motto, or prayer.
My Simple Motto
Your Day
This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)
Each morning when I awake, I’ve been praying:
Heavenly Father, this is Your day, not mine. I’ll begin the day with You and end it with You. You made this day, and you created me to live it for you and to give praise to you. Help me to honor You with my life this day.
Your Way
Make your way plain for me to follow. Psalm 5:8 (NLT)
God, have Your way in my life today. Help me to discern Your will. I surrender my ways, my plans, my life. I abandon my agendas and embrace Yours. My life–my heart–is a blank page. Write on it whatever You wish. I want Your way and Your will, not mine.
Your Say
“I’ll do whatever you say.” Psalm 119:145 (MSG)
Lord Jesus, whatever You say is what I want to do. Let me hear Your voice plainly, and accomplish what You want for my life today. Speak to my heart, Lord. I’m not asking for comfort, but for a commitment that gives You first place in my life.
Your Day, Your Way, Your Say!
Day-votedly Yours,
Rebecca
It’s a simple motto and daily prayer, and my day is filled with other praises and petitions to God. But this simple motto works for me each morning as I arise.
These words might not be fresh and original enough for a greeting card rhyme, but God is faithful to give freshness and uniqueness to our days if we begin each morning with Him: His Day, His Way, His Say.
