When You Need a Miracle: How to Ask God for the Impossible – Book Giveaway

When You Need a MiracleAre you in need of a miracle? Would you like a more intimate walk with God? Does the word impossible fill you with discouragement or hope? I believe Linda Shepherd’s new book will give you some solid biblical truths to help you ask–and believe–God for the impossible.

I don’t usually offer book reviews and book giveaways on back to back blogs, but I happened to be reading and reviewing those books about the same time. Please leave your comments below to be entered for a giveaway of Linda’s new book.

God Loves to Turn Impossibilities Into Realities

In When You Need a Miracle, Linda Evans Shepherd shows you how God loves to turn impossibilities into realities. I love her biblical approach and inclusion of basics: helping readers first begin a relationship with God, then moving on to demonstrate through Scripture, true life examples, and strong principles—factors like trust, love, forgiveness, praise, fighting our enemy, and others—that help develop an intimate relationship with Him. Shepherd’s principles are not new, but they are powerfully packaged—and I believe anointed with the Holy Spirit’s direction—as she demonstrates those principles from her own life and the lives of others.

No Easy Formulas

These words by Linda early on in her book will quiet the skeptic who might consider the prayers she has offered (or any material in her book) as formulaic: “I really believe you will experience miracles, not because you will learn how to pray powerful prayers. I believe you will experience miracles because you will draw nearer to God and his presence. Miracles are about what happens when we welcome God’s presence and power into our situations and lives.” I so agree with Linda.

Solid Biblical Truths

There are no formulas here. Linda even cautions against that—and warns against those who would cause others to feel guilty in their well-meaning efforts to help. Instead, she gives valid reasons why some receive earthly healing, but not everyone. I believe what makes Linda’s book stand out from others are her solid biblical truths. The prayers she offers are based on Scripture, which fleshes out the truth that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Some of the “truths” she includes in her book will help others cut through the hindrances to God’s working in their lives, allowing them to find freedom—which is a miracle many need. I read Linda’s book in two sittings, and I highly recommend it. Revell sent this book to me for review. There is no compensation involved.

Linda Evans Shepherd is the author of over thirty books including When You Don’t Know What to Pray: How to Talk to God about Anything and When You Can’t Find God: How to Ignite the Power of His Presence, and the co-author of the popular series the Potluck Club and the Potluck Catering Club. Linda is an international speaker and media personality and is the creator of RightToTheHeart.tv and appears as a frequent host of Daystar’s Denver Celebration.

I have truly experienced Gods miracles in my life and others yet recently I have been drawn to reading books on Gods miracles due to two recent MRI’s and as I wait on results and yes….a little fear I am questioning many things. I want to not question Gods promises or forget that he still brings miracles into our lives. Lisa Trowbridge

I so needed this today. My cousin Tami’s daughter, Chelsea who is 15 years old has brain cancer. This has been going on with her since January 2011. Most recently, new cancer cells have appeared. Last friday, she had a seizure and had to airflighted.
My entire family is praying and seeking a miracle from God. As anyone would, we are a little discouraged but still believing that God is still in the miracle business. But Tami, as any mother would be, is hurt, angry, and doesn’t understand. OH, how I am praying that God would deliver that miracle quickly to us!!! What a glorious day that we could shout to everyone and tell them that Chelsea is cancer Free and healed by the blood and power of the Almighty Jesus!!! Please let me know how and where I can get this book for us!!!! ASAP thank you,

Thank you Rebecca for sharing Linda’s newest book with us. I have been so blessed and encouraged by Linda’s earlier books particularly When You Don’t know how to Pray… Linda has a way of helping me take my focus from my circumstance and give them to our Father thru prayer and surrender. Her words helped me thru a very dark time. I can only imagine this book will do the same. I have seen God do some amazing miracles this year but I too am in need of God to do yet another miracle in my life. I would love to read what Linda has to say and walk with her as she coaches the reader to the throne of God in anticipation of His intervention and miracle. Thank you Rebecca for featuring Linda and her newest book “When You Need a Miracle”

God my Father in heaven has granted me life changing miracles! I chose my first husband who is an alcoholic, drug addict! God blessed me with 3 children and the marriage ended at 13 yrs. I became very depressed and ran away from everyone I loved and ended up in the mental ward and on medication. Even though my life appeared one way the most important thing was, I never lost my faith!!!! I cried out to God just about on a daily basis. He wrapped his loving arms around me and brought me out of the “pit” and delivered me from dispair! I rededicated my life to Jesus on the fourth of July 2005 and God began his good and awesome and wonderfully powerful work in me, His daughter! Jesus healed a brown recluse bite, no doctors or meds! Just herbal cream, and praying over myself and the elders of the church laying hands on me. I couldn’t get along with my daughters and now I have 5 grandchildren and relationships in progress with my daughters and grandchildren! I have lived with friends and moved a lot. I have been stable in the same apt and working steadily for 3 yrs now. The best miracle is that I had prayed for the man God had created for me because I always believed my soul mate was out there and I had to wait for God to send him to me. He did! He also happens to be in prison but glory to God my husband Darryl’s life has been changed and God uses him daily to preach, teach, and mentor the young men. He is highly honored and respect by all men who know him. I am truly proud of the man God gave me and we are very happily married. Both of us are waiting patiently for his release, while we do God’s will while waiting. All things are possible with God and He gives us the strength to rise up with wings like eagles and SOAR!!!!! All of our praises, honor, and glory go to Him who provides, shelters, and loves us beyond what we could imagine! Jesus is our Lord and Savior and the center of our lives and marriage. Thank you Rebecca for giving me this opportunity to share my miracles thereby giving inspiration that is needed. In His love, Mr, and Mrs. Douglas

I really need this book My husband and I have an 11 year old with a serious mental condition, known as conduct disorder, this diagnosis is one that is associated with most criminals and in spite of prayer and christian up bringing this is the path he is currently on,

We have him in a residential facility because he is physically abusive to his brother and destructive to property. This is not because he does not know right from wrong it’s that he lacks empathy for other people, to make matters worse he seems to like being at the residential facility. He undermines every attempts to help him say he doesn’t want to change and statistics involved with treating this condition are poor. Interestingly God has given me a heart for criminals and a passion for rehabilitation.I know through many testimonies that God does. So he can for my son too.

    21. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on September 15th, 2012 8:09 pm

I’m so sorry about this situation with your son. You will definitely be in our prayers as we ask for God’s intervention. The contest/drawing for Linda’s book When You Need a Miracle only lasted two weeks, so we already had the drawing. Her book is available through the link she provided on the blog. May God give grace and wisdom as you walk this journey. I’m sure no one understands unless they have walked in your shoes. But God does.

    24. Chuck on December 9th, 2012 10:41 am

Recently I asked someone (a female) if they wanted a disk containing funny stuff. They said OK.
I told them the disk was not for kids and to keep it away from them and if they still wanted it. They said it was ok. I checked with one of their co workers and they said both the female and their spouse would like it. I was having trouble making disks and checked each day with them to see if the disk worked or not.

I gave them the disk at their work to take home with them. 5 days later I was informed by their supervisor that they were offended. I told the supervisor that I could fix the problem and not make disks for anyone. I also wrote a note saying that they did say it was ok and that I was sorry for offending them.
I did not see or speak to that female again.
Lately, I have been followed by someone. I assume it is an attempt to locate my identity and where I stay.
I fear that the woman may file a lawsuit against me even though she agreed to my giving her the disk.
I recently discovered that my dvd burner doesn’t read or write dvd’s. It does work with CD’s though. I usually never check to see if the disks made work or not.

I notified their corporate office twice regarding this issue without leaving my name and such just to be sure that I didn’t give any personal information. I told them that I have not seen or talked to her since that day. I told them that I do not want to be around dishonest people that are looking to sue to get free money. (too much more to type about this)

I contacted the corporate office that I suspect stalking by that woman or someone on her behalf.
Since I am 100% disabled, own nothing except the clothes on my back, and am on disability, I presume that the woman or someone she knows is stalking me to cause me harm and told their corporate office this.

I pray for a miracle that they just drop it and go on with their lives.

This stress is causing me tightness in my chest, an indicator of an impending heart attack.

I never meant to offend anyone and always ask before doing anything, just to be sure.

I pray to Jesus for a miracle that they just drop it and leave me alone.

I have not made any disks of any kind for anyone ever since then (I can still make cd’s though but haven’t).

Please pray that Jesus grants me my miracle and that everyone just drops the issue.

It seems I cannot even trust someone’s word on things any more. This is sad.

      Thank you.

PS I can’t give my email because i could be tracked that way, sorry.

I am a very spiritual and GOD fearing person.
since last 3 years, I am having a badly troubled personal life.

Looks like GOD is simply not listening and ready to help me.
I cry from the deepest of my heart but no mercy no grace is recieved from GOD.
I pray to GOD each day several times. But he is simpy not listening.

      Badly shattered!

    26. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on December 12th, 2012 9:44 pm

Roohi, God is always listening. But there are many reasons why He may be delaying His answer. Stay close to Him and keep believing. Ask Him for His perfect will to be done in your life. We are praying for you!

    27. Rooohi on December 13th, 2012 3:23 am

      Thanks Rebecca.
I am all filled with negativity.
It is getting very hard to have patience at this point in time.

Don’t know whether GOD will solve my problem or not.
And at the same time, it is hard to belive that he can punish someone so hard and not show even a single ray of hope.

I once had a beautiful life, not perfect but married with 2 incredible children, good jobs and a big house. Then somehow evil came into our home without realizing it and our marriage was falling. We had stopped going to church and alcohoI was in our daily lives. I became involved in an unhealthy relationship but failed to realize it…it had it’s good days and bad days. I struggled to keep it alive and real. I did not have God in my life at the time and was drinking heavily. I had a breakdown and tried to take my life and saw my soul leave my body. I have been dealing with soul loss for 2 years and have been praying for a miracle…I have been asking God daily to forgive me and to somehow, if it’s possible to bring my soul back to me wherever it went. I am alive without my soul and it is so scary. God has the power to do the unthinkable…so I have to keep my faith strong and hope that in time he will bring my soul back to me.

Desperately seeking God and answers to the many questions in my heart and mind. I am discontent with my life right now, and going through so many tribulations everyday is a struggle and far to much for one that is only human to handle.

    33. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on March 17th, 2013 8:26 pm

Kim, it’s so good that you are seeking God. He knows what you are going through, and He will never leave you, even in your worst tribulations. Please know you are being lifted up in prayer. Keep trusting God, no mater what. We can’t know His ways or His timing, but we can testify–He is faithful!

Michelle, God has promised He will never leave us or forsake His children. The Prodigal Son is a good example of what our Heavenly Father is like.

    35. Carol Ednie on April 1st, 2013 5:50 pm

I need a miracle. I have taught for 20 years. after my husband, who was an Assemblies of God Minister left me and our 4 children I took another teaching position nearer to my family. after 3 years I was furloughed from the position due to declining enrollment. I was hired at another district as an Alternative Eduction Teacher. Within 2 months they asked me to resign saying horrible things about me and calling me Incompetant. I was so devastated. we had to move back in with my 81 year old mother. I took a substitute position and on the application I was asked if I resigned a position after being told I would be fired. l lied and said no even though a union rep. Said I could say that. I feel such great conviction. I contacted the Lawyer who “represented me” in my forMeR district and he said technically they were going o fire me so I should answer yes. I contacted the human relations director and asked for a meeting. I could be fired. I am asking for prayer that God will forgive me. I had wonderful references up to this last district and I was so devastated by their intimidation. I was working 12-14 hour days. Now, I may get fired because I did lie. Can God cause the human relations director to forgive me and allow me to keep my job. I have no other way to support my family. I wrote to one prayer line and they told me I would have to pay for the consequences of my sin. Now I am frantic. Please help. Thank you,
      Carol Ednie

    36. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on April 1st, 2013 10:42 pm

Carol, thanks for sharing your heart here. This is not a prayer line, but you will definitely be in our prayers. Always remember, God can do anything. The important thing to remember is that He honors those who honor Him. His Word says He gives grace to the humble. It’s always right to be truthful, and God may work things out so you can keep the job as you appeal and are truthful in this situation. But that’s not a given–it’s up to Him. If He doesn’t work that out, He will be faithful to provide for you another way. Just keep trusting Him. He has promised in Phil. 4:19 that He will meet all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. As His children, if He lives in our hearts, we have His forgiveness past, present, and future. So you already have His forgiveness, and the minute you confess, you have that fellowship restored with Him. I’m so sorry for the difficulties you have been through. Ask Him what He wants you to learn through this. Let Him know you trust Him no matter what His answer is. I think what God cares about the most is that we love Him so deeply that we will trust His way, no matter what that means. Praise God it is Jesus who paid for our sins–and yes, we sometimes have to live with our consequences. But God never abandons His children. He loves us too much and wants so much for us to love Him with all our hearts. Stay connected to a church who can give you the spiritual and emotional support and accountability (and prayer) you need. You are in our prayers.
