Promise for Today: Satisfaction Guaranteed
“Oh that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness” Psalm 107: 8-9 NKJV
When my father really enjoyed a meal, he would say, “I’m suffering with satisfaction.”
At one time or another most of us have tried to satisfy our longings with a variety of “things”: houses, cars, clothes, food, jobs, gadgets, even relationships. And they may bring us a measure of temporary pleasure.
But God promises to satisfy the deep, down-in-your-soul kind of longings, and there’s nothing temporary about His gift to us. He is the only One who can fill us with that kind of permanent contentment.
When that happens, we indeed can cry out with thanks to the Lord: “I am suffering with satisfaction!” Satisfaction Guaranteed.
Prayer for Today:
Lord, where can we go but to You? Fill our deepest longings with Your sweet, sweet presence. May we never look elsewhere for the filling of our souls. You satisy us so completely!

Got something to say?

In the verses of Psalm 107:8-9. the words “……For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness” stood out to me. I thought about this for awhile because I have been a longing soul lately.
My sons are heavy drinkers. I miss their friendship very much as they have changed since the drinking has increased. But last night, they had a campfire, and I happened to be there so I sat down with them. eventually we began to just talk about things….anything and the conversation flowed. Yes, they were drinking, but we were engaged in conversation. When I left, I felt satisfied for the first time in a long time. The longing was gone.
God satisfies my longing soul too, but on a much deeper level. The key, though, is that I need to engage with Him. I will often pray to God that I hurting or longing, but that is it, and I wait and wait, and the longing is still there. Yes, God heard my prayer, but I need to continue to engage with Him, read His Word, interact with Him. then the satisfaction will come. God wants a relationship with us…one that goes on into eternity.
Thanks for this devotion!!!
Margaret, Thanks for sharing your heartfelt comments. You said it so well: God does want a relationship with us that goes on into eternity! God bless as you continue to “engage with Him.”
