One Place You Will Always Belong

October 6, 2016

There's one place you will always belong. You're always at home in the Father's heart.

“My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23

Everyone wants–and needs–a place to belong. We all like to fit in.

Too many try too hard–and in all the wrong places.

But you already have a place in God the Father’s heart.

There, you will always find acceptance as His child.

There, you’ll have access to all the rooms.

There, you’ll find fellowship with Him daily.

If you’ve said yes to His invitation, to follow Jesus with all your heart, you are a part of the family of God!

Where else can you find a safe refuge and a place to be yourself?

Where else can you rest your cares and worries?

Where else can you enjoy a life of purpose and joy?

Jesus paid the price with His own death so you could have forgiveness, acceptance, and unconditional love.

There’s one place you’ll always belong.

You’re always at home in the Father’s heart.

Prayers with Kids at Bedtime

September 15, 2016

Prayers with kids or grandkids at bedtime is more than a ritual. They need that spiritual nudge, that personal hug from God and you to give them a sense of security and love. If you need help and a place to start, here are two examples:

Prayers with kids or grandkids at bedtime is more than a ritual. They need that spiritual nudge, that personal hug from God and you to give them a sense of security and love. You know that praying to end the day, thanking God for all that was experienced, asking for rest and a fresh start tomorrow, is an important habit to build in your kids. But have you ever found yourself putting your kids or grandkids to bed at the end of a long day, wanting to pray, but just too exhausted to find the words?  If you need help and a place to start, here are two examples:

Prayer One

Dear God, we thank you tonight for the good day and for the special way you take care of us all the time. Thank you for the fun times outside and the quiet times inside, and for helping us learn new things every day.

Thank you for creating us special, exactly the way you wanted. Thank you for protecting us throughout the day. Forgive us for the wrong things we do. Thank you for loving us even when we disobey or try to do things our way. Help us to always choose your way, God, because it’s always best. We pray for all the people who don’t know you, and that they will come to understand your love for them, too.

Bless our family and thank you for good times together and apart. Bless our friends and those we love, including our grandparents, our aunts and uncles and cousins. Thank you for our home and a place to sleep and good food to eat. Help us rest well, give us peaceful dreams, and send your angels around our home to protect us throughout the night. Teach us to trust you and to love you more and more. You are good; you are great; and you are faithful, God. And we love you. Good night.

Prayer Two

Bless us with rest tonight, Jesus, and a good night’s sleep. Forgive us for the things we did today that did not honor you. Thank you for loving us so much and that you know us through and through. We need your help every day, and we thank you for the strength you give and for helping us know that with you, even hard things are possible. Bless our family and our home, and keep us safe through the night. May your angels guard us and watch over us, just like you promised. Read more

A Bedtime Prayer to God

September 8, 2016

Ending the day with God is just as important as the beginning. As you face a night alone or a challenging tomorrow, here is a bedtime prayer that might help you.

From sunrise to sunset, let the Lord’s name be praised! Psalm 113:3 CEB

Begin and End the Day with God

Ending the day with God is just as important as when you begin. Another day is ending, and maybe you’re you looking for a way to give your dreams to God, forgive the wrongs of the day, or ask the Spirit to speak to you in your sleep. If you’re unsure what to say as you face another night alone or a challenging tomorrow, you might like to pray along with this bedtime prayer and make Him the Lord of your nights!

Thanks for Your Faithfulness

Heavenly Father, my day is drawing to an end, and I’m ready to turn in. But before I do, I have to thank you for your faithfulness today. It’s always a good day, even when things may not go the way I plan, or when the world seems in chaos, because you are in control.

Thanks for Your Unseen Presence

For all the times when I was aware of your help today, all the times when your unseen presence seemed so near, thank you, God. But for all the ways you worked behind the scenes, unknown to me, moments when heaven-sent angels moved on my behalf in ways I’ll never know, thank you for those also, Lord.

Thanks for Your Love and Forgiveness

Forgive me for any foolish actions on my part today or things I did without first asking your blessing or wisdom. Those are moments I’d rather forget, but I’m so grateful for your forgiveness when I ask. I never want to go to bed without clearing the air between us, Lord. Our friendship means too much, and your holiness deserves that. Thank you for loving me just as I am. Your love compels me to give you my all and fills my heart with praise for the relationship we share because of Jesus.

You can read the rest of this prayer where it first appeared on crosswalk.

Today’s blog is a another in my series on Prayer. And if you’d also like to read a prayer to help you start the day, you can find one I wrote on crosswalk as well.  Read more

Praying for Peace Within

September 1, 2016

While we all crave peace, perhaps one kind that we all struggle with most from time to time is peace within. If so, today's blog is for you.

Peace within is something we all need. And while we all crave different kinds of peace, perhaps one that we all struggle with most from time to time is inner peace. If so, today’s blog is for you. While I always encourage you to pray your own prayer, perhaps these thoughts will be helpful to you. It’s yet another one in a series of helpful prayers I’ve been sharing with you for a few weeks.

Is your heart troubled? Are you feeling like the psalmist, who asked his own soul, “Why are you in despair? And why have you become disturbed within me?” One of the hardest parts of knowing peace is understanding how it has nothing to do with control. If you’re having trouble with trust or finding the words to pray above the howling of the scary storms, feel free to offer up these words to the Lord now!

When Confusion Reigns

Oh Lord, sometimes my insides feel like a battle zone, where missiles are falling too close to home. Other times I’m caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying out of control. Confusion reigns, and defeat creeps in to steal my joy. I need your peace—the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind. Calm my anxious spirit, Lord; all the attacking “if-onlys” and “what-ifs” fill me with needless worry.

I know that trust is a big part of experiencing peace and that fear has no place in my life. Most of the things I worry about or dread don’t even happen. So I’m declaring my trust in you. I’m releasing the reins of my life again and asking you to take control. I may need to pray this same prayer daily, but I’m tired of the frenzy of life that leaves my schedule and my thoughts without any margin. I need more of you, Lord, and less of me.

Finding Peace Within

I surrender and admit: I can’t control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to you, and focus on your goodness. Thank you today for every good gift you’ve given, every blessing you’ve sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial you’ve allowed into my life. You bring good out of every circumstance if I’ll only let go and believe you. I know that when I pray and give thanks instead of worrying, you have promised that I can experience the kind of peace that passes all understanding. That’s your kind of peace, Lord. And it’s the kind I crave. Read more

A Prayer for Hope and New Perspective

August 18, 2016

What do you pray when life is spinning out of control? If you're having trouble getting your words to rise above the clutter, pray along with these words now!

Prayer is such a vital part of a Christian’s life. Many have asked me, “What should I pray? How can I get God to answer?” My response to them is to pray from your heart, because it’s the heart and life of the pray-er that counts, not formulaic words. But in the next few weeks I’ll share with you some thoughts and prayers in various situations that might be helpful to you as you pray on your own. Last week I shared some back-to-school prayers you could pray for your kids and grandkids. But here’s a prayer when you need fresh hope and a new perspective:

What do your eyes see today? Are you unable to see anything but problems, troubles, chaos, messiness? Are you finding it difficult to pray for comfort, perspective, hope and order? We all encounter seemingly hopeless situations at times, but that is why Christ came and why he gave us the Holy Spirit – because we need hope in the deepest parts of us! If you’re having trouble getting your words to rise above the clutter, pray along with these words now!

Jesus, some days my world seems to be spinning out of control. Everywhere I look, I see chaos—even in my own life. There are days where I long to just throw in the towel and say, “Enough.” Where can I turn? Who can I talk to?

Jesus, You’re Our Only Hope

You’re the only one I know who will truly listen, Lord. And I know you have the answers. But I can’t seem to find them. I long to see a little clearing in this tunnel. I need a little hope, Jesus. Your Word tells me I can come to you for that hope and that you won’t disappoint, that your load is easy and your burden light.

I Need a New Perspective

Give me a new perspective, Lord, and blow away the cobwebs that keep cluttering my mind and my vision. Every time I’m tempted to become discouraged or depressed because of negative events or situations, help me turn my eyes on you. Help me to remember all the times you’ve been there for me, and all the ways you have brought me through difficult times. I forget to thank you sometimes, but I am so grateful for your faithfulness. Back to School Prayers for Kids and Grandkids

August 11, 2016

As my husband and I were praying for our kids and grandkids today, God impressed me to put aside another blog I was working on and to revisit one I had already posted a while back. In this season of our lives, we feel like some of the most important work we can do is to pray for our children and grandchildren.

More Challenges, More Temptations

With school starting again soon, our young family members will face more pressures than ever. New temptations will test them and new studies will challenge them. In many cases, fears may assault them, and their faith will need strengthening for tough times. Whether they don uniforms or other clothes, they will all need to wear God’s protective armor (Ephesians 6:11-18).

Growth in Character and Abilities

But they will also have opportunities to grow both in their character, and in their abilities. God can increase their joys and confidence in themselves and in Him. Maybe that’s why we pray with more intensity for our children and grandchildren. And that’s why their names are on our lips both in silent and spoken prayers not just once in a while, but daily. God knows their names!

Praying for your kids and grandkids is not an option. They depend on you, especially as they go back to school. In a nutshell, below are five back to school prayers you can pray for your loved ones–now, or anytime of year. Read more

August 4, 2016

When God speaks, we would be wise to listen. How does He speak? Here are four more ways God speaks to us today.

Does God still speak to us today? If so, when, how? Today is Part 2 of last week’s blog: Eight Ways God Speaks to Us Today. We covered four of those ways last week. I hope they were helpful to you. Here are the last four ways: Read more
