Bible Promise for Today: Enduring Love

Bible Promise for Today: Enduring LoveIs there such a thing as enduring love–the kind that lasts forever? In a world filled with break-ups and break downs, who can count on real love anymore?

Those who know the Lover well.

That Lover has been pursuing you for a long time. And He wants you for His own.

His relationship is unlike any you’ll ever know or have ever known.

Faithfulness underlines all His actions.

And He, alone, created “forever.”

Bible Promise: Enduring Love

Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever (Psalm 106:1, NIV).

Some Christians misunderstand God’s love. Fearful that He might retract it, they hoard blessings rather than use or enjoy them. But God’s fresh mercy is available to us for the asking. And goodness is His inherent character. He offers enduring love.

God’s love is not like the secular version on earth: “I will if you will.” It’s not based on a “falling in or out” kind of relationship. He loved us before we were ever born. And His love lasts forever.

God doesn’t wait until we jump through His religious hoops or meet His high standards to promise His affections.  He loves us just as we are.

I like the following passage in the Message translation:

Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him (Romans 5:6-8 MSG).

His love isn’t stingy; it’s extravagant. He never acts in any way, but out of love toward us. He will never stop loving us. His love and His Bible promise are both enduring.

Our Part?

What’s our part? We don’t sign a written agreement: “I’ll never mess up. I’ll walk a perfect line. I’ll never fail You.” Impossible to do. Impossible to keep.

But we do “write” an agreement with our heart, soul, and mind to accept His offer of love, grace, and forgiveness and commit to live for Him! Jesus’ love, Jesus’ death paid for everything! He offers a free gift!

I’ve heard others say, “I’m afraid if I ask God to forgive me, He’ll say no. I’ve sinned away my grace period.” As long as you have breath to cry out to Jesus, He’s ready to forgive, no matter what you’ve done. God cannot love you any more or any less than He already does. His love endures forever.

And if you choose to reject His love and live separated from Him? That’s a painful choice to make. He loved both thieves on the cross, even though only one would spend eternity with Him–the one who cried out to Him for mercy.

What about those who already belong to Jesus, who’ve already chosen to follow Him? What happens when they mess up? For a believer, sin may crimp the flow of God’s blessings temporarily, but it will never cut off the Father’s love for His child (I John 1:9). He promises enduring love.

God showed me his great love for me just as I was and just where I was because he knew I needed love. When I realized how much he loved me nothing else mattered – not what people thought of me or how they treated me. Because I was loved by God and his love never changes.
