Daily in Your Presence

What do you say to the God of the Universe? How do you approach the Lord of the Hosts? Why would the King of Kings want to spend time with a lowly servant? Can I really expect God to be my Father? To sit down and talk as an intimate Friend? What does it mean to be His child? Does Jesus really, really love me and accept me as I am? What does He expect from me? Does He really care? Why would a Holy God want to fellowship with me, anyway?   

If you’ve ever asked one of those questions, this book is for you. In At Home in My Heart, Preparing a Place for His Presence, I invited you, the reader, to take a tour with me as Jesus renovated my heart and home. I hope you invited Him to walk through yours as well. The tour is complete, for now, though Jesus is always at work—in my heart and in yours—conforming, correcting, and celebrating His own creation. Now it’s time to rest awhile. Will you pull up a chair by the fire and join me once again as we celebrate the work and character of an awesome God?   

In this book, it was not my intention to try to bring God down to our level or to lift us up to His. Through His grace and mercy, Jesus already did that. These prayer conversations are short and simple. If you do nothing but meditate on the names and attributes of God daily, offering a prayer of thanks and praise for His character, you will be blessed. In fact, I encourage you to review all the names at least once a month, with a prayer that simply says, “Praise you God, for being my ______________, and add the names or attributes you read. As I researched His names and spent time meditating on His beautiful character, there were times when I had to stop typing. His love, grace, and comfort so overwhelmed me, tears of gratitude flowed freely. Crying out, “Abba! Daddy!” or “Holy, Holy, Holy,” I entered the awesome joy of His presence as I hope you will. If you allow Him to, the powerful name of the Almighty will change your countenance, your actions, and your reactions. He will bring comfort, assurance, strength, and joy as only a Father can.

God desires your fellowship—even more than you desire His. He wants to converse with you, just as a loving Father with His child. Come, and enter the intimate presence of the Lord. As you take a few moments each day to join Him in simple conversation, feel free to kneel, to shout, to pray, to sing, to cry or just to bow in silence. Stay as long as you wish. I hope when your time together is finished, your heart will be strangely warmed like mine. And that this year will be the start of many more Intimate Conversations with a Loving Father. Enjoy His presence!*
