8 Ways God Speaks to Us Today – Part 1

He conversed with Adam in the first garden. He told Noah to build an ark. He spoke to Moses in a burning bush. He promised Abraham a son. Paul heard His voice on the way to Damascus. But does God still speak to us today? If so, how? When? Where?

Often when people ask this question, they are talking about an audible voice. And God can do that. He can do anything He wants. He’s God. Why then, can’t I hear God speak to me audibly, someone might ask?

I can’t answer questions that the Bible does not make clear. And the way God works is one of those questions. I do think “hearing God speak” may mean different things to different people. To some, it may suggest, “I need answers for my life, or this particular crisis.” Another may say, “I’ve asked God for _________, but He never answers me.

God treats each of us as unique children. None of us are cookie-cutter Christians. Because of that, God doesn’t “speak” the same way to all of us. However, here are eight ways God often uses to communicate with us.

8 Ways God Speaks to Us Today

1. Through His Word in general.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that all Scripture is “God-breathed.” His Word sometimes gives us a warning, a word of encouragement, or a lesson for life. It’s “His-story”–written with love as God’s guide for life, “so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

That means God is whispering, and sometimes shouting, all through His Word, giving us instructions and principles for life. As we interpret Scripture by other Scripture, we avoid the false logic and misinterpretations that sneak into our world. If someone claims, “God told me to go kill my neighbor!” would you believe him? Of course not! God never violates His own Word or principles. That “voice” does not belong to God.

I needed help for raising my children. God “told” me about that in His Word, especially in Proverbs. Marriage difficulties? God spoke about that as well. Times when I was afraid? I “heard” Jesus’ words to His disciples as they feared for their lives one stormy night: “Peace, be still!” and it was as if God was speaking to me, too (Luke 8:23-25).

2. Through His Son, Jesus Christ

The New Testament was the fulfillment of God’s special plan. It’s the gospel: the good news of Jesus Christ. “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe” (Hebrews 1:1-2, NIV).

Through the words of Jesus in Scripture, we can “hear” God’s heart and God’s voice–and know what God is truly like. These words were not written for a few, select individuals who could jump through the right spiritual hoops (“For God so loved the world….”). Someone in Africa, in Germany, in China, and in Alabama can “hear” Jesus’ voice by reading the same Bible.

Comparing us to sheep and He as the Shepherd, Jesus says in John 10:27, NKJV: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Why? Because the sheep know who He is. They belong to Him, and they recognize Him by the sound of His voice. And He’s the one who will always lovingly lead them on the right path–again and again.

3. Through Nature and God’s Creation

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse ” (Romans 1:20, NIV). Through the intricate details and magnificent beauty of all that God has made, we can “hear” His voice. How? By observing the ant’s strength to store up food all summer long, we learn about wisdom and industriousness. By studying the heavens, we understand more of God’s greatness. And through planting and growing a garden, we “hear” about miracles of death and rebirth. God designed–and spoke them all into existence.

4. Through Other Believers

God may use a friend, a teacher, a parent, or a preacher to convey His message of truth to us. Their words may come as a warning, a blessing, or as a prophetic truth about our lives.Whether we choose to hear it or ignore it, depends on us. Do their words line up with Scripture? Will God confirm or affirm that truth in us? “The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere” (James 3:17, NIV).

I’ve “heard” God speak to me numerous times through other people. A good friend once cautioned me about flirting with danger. Words from a speaker or Christian author have both challenged me and convicted me at times.  And I’ve “heard” God talking to me through my own children as their pure and honest words cut clear to my heart and spirit, reminding me of God’s true priorities.

All these things may not sound to you like ways of “hearing God’s voice,” but it’s possible to reduce God to our own image if we insist on Him acting or reacting a certain way. God is bigger than that. He once spoke through a donkey (Numbers 22:28). Why then, can’t He speak through anyone at anytime or in any way He wants to?

Bottom line is that if we are His children, God loves us unconditionally and will spare no expense to show us. Our part? Believe Him!

Hearing His “audible” voice would no doubt cinch His reality in an awesome way. But I’ve never heard God through an angel’s message. I have no taped recordings to tell you what God sounds like. But I have heard God “speak” through the above ways–and in a few more I’ll tell you about next week in Part 2. Is there ever a time when God is silent? I believe so. We’ll talk about that, too. See you next week!

I always feel God through other believers. It’s good to hear other people’s thoughts about their faith and challenges encountered. It makes me think and realize many things about my life.

Yes, God speaks to us when we need his protection in bad situations.
I was a divorced young mother and had custody of two children.
I was being set up by my ex-husband to do something wrong so he
could have witnesses to the effect and take custody away from me.
I was a christian and all my life from childhood tried to abide by what
I was raised up to be. So, thank God my moral values were in order.
One day an older lady recruited her husbands niece to ask me to go
to this bar. I never went into bars but some strange reason I did go because they kept saying,” oh, come on, you need to get out and do something, all you do is sit home’. I was never around evil doings so I never would have thought something was up. I went along. Victim of circumstance. We went into this place, my ex was a judge in a hot pants contest there that night. I glanced over and saw him but it did not affect me in any way. Like a stranger. Something said to me in my spirit (not audible) like a command, “drink 7-up because she will tell them what you drink.” It repeated it a second time in my mind. “Drink 7-up because she will tell them what you drink!:
The girl took our order and I did what the instructions were. I told the girl , “7-up.”
The next day, my sister called me up and told me that older lady, not her niece they recruited to heip them set me up. called my sister and told her, “Mar got drunk last night.” I could not believe people would lie like that. I told my sister that I had drank 7-up.
Never forget God knows our hearts. He knows who says and does what! The Ex- lived 4 yrs. and the old lady lived 9 yrs. after that. Both died of cancer and stroke. She had told me right after our divorce that “she would do whatever she could to help him get his kids.” I was shocked. I had never done anything to anyone. Forty years after that incident I learned by seeing a copy of his DD214 from military that he had gotten a less than honorable discharge from the service. He was not a good person.
God protected me from evildoers because he knew my heart. What an Awesome God and his way of allowing me to know I was in a bed of vipers.

    8. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on September 27th, 2012 9:08 pm

Maria, I’m so sorry about the difficulties you went through. But I’m also grateful that God gave you His protection. He truly is an awesome God!

God Does speak today the same way He spoke to the prophets in the Old Testament. Personally I have only hear His thunder Voice once, I was completely naked, out in the open and when you hear that voice start to speak, you do run for cover, the cleverness or audacity or simply the way we know Him like a child stealing a cookie from his mother gets me me all the time, there was a log on the ground so I cover myself the best I could until the voice was gone, but he did said these words” NO one puts anything before”

I was wondering when people tell me that god speak to them.It was something that i thought it was not true when they say such a thing.I was jobless after my grad.I asked god that all the while u were showing me the right path and now after a long journey of my studies where i did a lot of things that god hates.I was totally engaged with all the worldly things. One day i received a call from one of the school and asked me to attend an interview.I failed to fill up all their requirements. After few month later the management called me back and employed me.When i went to the school on the first day, a lady came n told me that god spoke to me n asked me to hire you.Since that day i believe that god speak to people and everyday before going to work i will kneel down and pray to god and share my specific problem that I’m facing while working.Till today he answers all my prayers daily and he always make a better way for me.God is good.I have felt his love. And knew that he was beaten for our sins and he shade blood on the cross because of our sin.I hope that everyone who read this message will get to know more about god and speak to him and surely he will speak to you.

    13. Jorge on October 5th, 2012 9:52 am

Dear Carol God will speak to you today if you seek Him with all your heart ,some indivuals are just naturally blesed while others we have to fight for our blessing like that woman In Matthew 9:20 who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years thinking to her self if I just touch and came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
Grab Him and don’t let Him go like Jacob and the Angel.

    14. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on October 5th, 2012 11:51 am

Thanks, Carol, for sharing your heart desire. There are so many Bible promises that speak to your question, like Psalm 103:12 about how God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. A couple of books that might be helpful are Victory Over the Darkness by Neil Anderson and The Search for Significance by Robert McGee. But also do a search for yourself through the Bible, like the book of Ephesians–which tells of our worth in Christ, not depending on what we do, but on what Jesus did on the cross for us. We become a Christian through faith in Christ–believing He died for our sins–and we also live by faith–not by works. His Spirit can and will give you the power to overcome those habits. Falling does not mean failing. God’s grace reaches down to ALL of us, no matter who we are or what we’ve done. Your desire for God to change you is what God wants. And He will do it! He is patient, and loving, and so much bigger than we think. His grace is HUGE! We can’t change ourselves! Also, if you are not in a good accountability group who will help you, such as a local church or strong, Christian friends, I encourage you to find those who will give you help. We were not made to handle our struggles alone. I will be praying for you.

    16. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on October 16th, 2012 10:13 am

Dear titloye a.t.: I’m not sure I understand your request. While I am not a counselor (and you might want to consult a strong Christian counselor or pastor you trust), I do believe that God will confirm those things through His Word and to us as well.

      Dear Carol,
By accepting Christ into your life as your Saviour your name has been written in the Lambs Book of Life!
My heart goes out to you for the falls you keep on having and for the feeling that God is through with you because of that. I have just said a prayer for you based on Scripture that none will pluck you from His hand.
I want you to remember that our God knows our human weaknesses. No matter how many times you stumble, call on Him and He will pick you up. He is faithful even when we are not. He is not tired! You are the one that is getting tired.

Find a church where you can start Bible Study and throw in a discipleship class too.

      God bless you abundantly.

    20. Debbie on November 5th, 2012 1:16 pm

I’m going through probably the most difficult time of my life. I am unemployed and if I don’t get some kind of a break through I could lose my home. I don’t have any one to help me. I can’t even pay my utilities. I have had to apply for food stamps for the 1st time in my life. I am 55 years old.

I have prayed for God to guide me and speak to me but I just don’t hear anything from Him. Sometimes I think the O.T. had it better. At least they had an angel come to them and tell them what God wanted or what He was doing.

I’m doing my best to trust, wait, rely, believe and not fear. It’s pretty hard not to get totally discouraged though.

Deborah, thanks for sharing your testimony. Jesus is indeed worthy of our trust!

    22. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on November 6th, 2012 6:55 pm

Indeed they do, Deborah. These are some very practical ways of helping others and making a difference. Thank you for sharing this with us! I know it will encourage others. His miracles are truly all around us.

    23. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on November 6th, 2012 7:16 pm

Debbie, my heart truly goes out to you, and I am so sorry for the things you are going through. I know it must be humbling, scary, and discouraging. And no one can understand your feelings unless they have been where your are–except Jesus. Keep believing, keep trusting, keep waiting on the Lord. If I knew of job resources, I would pass that on. I do know one thing from years of personal experience, through pain, loss, difficulties, and lots of personal challenges: God is faithful. Ask God for creativity, maybe involving ideas for income you’ve never thought about before. If you are not part of a local church, I would recommend you find a Bible-believing one if it’s possible for you to attend, and allow others to come alongside of you, pray with you, and give support. In times like these is when the Body of Christ was meant to bond together. Keep reading His word. In difficult times, I always cling to the Psalms and read them again and again. Keep reading His Word, thanking Him for what He is going to do–in His perfect timing. I don’t know all your circumstances, but may I offer a prayer for you right now? Lord Jesus, You are our Jehovah-jireh, and to those who know You personally, to those who are God’s children, You have promised to meet all their needs. I ask You to restore to Debbie what the locust has tried to devour. Give her a new hope; let her know You want to do a new thing in her life, something that will give You glory and cause praise to spring up from Debbie’s heart. Give her creativity, renew her trust in you, and remove every doubt and fear that tries to whisper their names in her ear. Deepen her love for you, Lord, and give her encouragement that You have never left, and that You will always be with Your children to give them a future filled with hope and purpose and joy. And while she continues to wait on you, will you whisper to her daily that You love her. Day-votedly Yours, Rebecca

Can you share any insight on The Lord speaking through dreams? Any wisdom in that area is greatly appreciated.

    25. Sharon Hunt on November 25th, 2012 2:52 am

Carol- I had to answer your post. Do not turn away from God. He misses you even more than you miss Him. It hurts him more if He sees you fall and you do not reach out for His hand. He knows you are of the flesh. He does not expect perfection. He asks you to give only what you have to give. Give that willingly and He is pleased with you beyond comprehension. Talk to Him everyday. Find a quiet place where no one will interrupt you and just talk to Him. My favourite place is in a nice hot bath whilst it is still dark and nobody else is awake yet. Tell Him how much you love Him. Tell Him the things you have done that you are ashamed of and ask for His forgiveness- He will give it to you. Write Him letters listing the things you are thankful for and also the things you need help with- then read them out to Him. Start the letters “Oh Lord” and finish them “in Jesus’ name – Amen”. When you read them out to Him they become your prayer. And then speak to Him throughout the day. If your heart starts to feel heavy or your mind confused, take a deep breath, ask Him to lift the weight of your worries from your shoulders, ask “what would you do Lord”. Remember all these worries and cares were nailed to the cross over 2000 years ago with Jesus. They need not worry us now. You are the daughter of the most high and He loves you. He would leave the rest of the flock to find you and celebrate when He has you back safely in His arms. He sees you for what you are in your heart. Read a part of the bible everyday make sure its a translation that speaks like you do. Sign up to a daily scripture service like WordLive. You will start to hear Him speak to you, through others, through scripture or even in yr own head and heart. Patience is waiting with peace. The time for your “reveal” will come, as you wait for it allow the Prince of Peace to calm your heart like He calmed the waters. Do not urge yourself. He does not condemn you. Primarily love Him with all your heart, your soul and mind. Love yourself for He loves you. Then love your neighbour as yourself. Love, appreciate, praise, give thanks, forgive yourself and others, communicate, learn, wait with peace. All will be well. Peace be with you little sister in Christ xx

    26. Sharon Hunt on November 25th, 2012 3:02 am

(that should have said “do not judge yourself” not “urge”) x

    27. truth on December 7th, 2012 7:44 pm

      Hi Rebecca,
The true gospel lost to men is Christ within. Jesus made it very clear that the kingdom is within us.To worship outward is of fleshly form and within is spirit acceptable to God just as he told the lady at the well. Jesus fulfilled his promise of sending the holy spirit on the day of pentecost as the light that enlightens ‘all man’ that come into the world. This light dwells within each man and convicts him daily of his sins. In other words god is within each man irrespective of religion. That.same light within each man is the annointing that teaches him how to llive a righteous life and there is no need for another man to teach for we only need one teacher, the christ. So the biggest question is how do we come to know this light? John says that it enlightens all man that enter this world. Who convicts you or tells you what is right and what is wrong? John also mentions that the same light is the word of god and is god! the life of all men. The same light shone in the darkness (mens hearts, minds) but the darkness did not comprehend it. That which turns our minds to purity and righteousness is the light
chained deep within each man hoping to be listened to and obeyed. Jesus knocks at every mans conscious daily! But no one hears! We all look outward for him when he is always within each man begging him to hear his voice. The light teaches us by enlightening us and we watch within us for his rising and prompting. We watch our conscious. You see irrespective of language, physical disabilities, jesus still teaches us and only he knows our weaknesses and strengths and he gives us power to change after subjecting us to personal trials and tribulations. The true church is within you just as jesus forewarned us.
Therefore what am I to do? First remember the flesh is evil and devious in his ways and this Paul spent a big time explaining the works of the flesh. We must come to silence and turn within and wait. When jesus said ‘my sheep hear my voice and they follow me’ he meant it. He even told the high priest that they were wasting their time searching the scriptures…..and same today….he speaks to us the same message. We must carry our cross of self denial if we want to be his true diciples. What I am implying is that the true gospel is jesus, the light within us teachers us and by his powet he saves us so that no man can boast before god. E.g as you become aware of this narrow road many things will be done against you just as jesus told peter that the devil has asked to sift all of us. We than watch for that which stirs the flesh to evil and we do our best to deny. This is the cross. We will not know our greatest evil or weakness until we are sifted within. Perseverance we must and this is the hour where we are subjected to trials and tribulations just as the apostles did and overcame. These are the true works as we abide in the vine. Thus we will come at the end to purity and holiness as god has demanded of us. Obedience to that which is revealed in us shows that we love him and obey his commands given daily to us. Note! Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of god within us. We must first put aside our fleshly knowledge and wisdom and come to him in repentence as a sinner knowing in our hearts that we can do nothing by ourselves to save us.
If you hold in your heart that god speaks to us and teaches us from within us…..read again the bible in this perspective and you will be surprised to see the whole teachings of the prophets, jesus and the diciples fall into place and there is no more doubt nor confusion. But first you must come to learn to be still and silence the mind in otder that you hear that tiny voice which is in all of us, christ the light of the world.

Last year the LOVE of my life since 1987 reentered my life. Things between us started taking a turn for the worse. she asked me to pray for her but i wasnt right with God at that time. So i prayed and asked forgivness my sins and prayed for her. Things keep getting worse and the more she pulled away the more I ran to God. she broke up with by txt the week before Christmas and I was crushed more than I have ever been in my life. The following sunday I got baptized. God has carried me. lifted me up and made me strong again. but this time i see everything so much different and with a smile. Right now I am being still and listning. I dont know if im suposed to be waiting for her or move on. How will I know what God is telling me to do or when he does?

    29. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on February 27th, 2013 10:41 am

Brent, thanks for writing. I am not a counselor. But being still and listening to God is always a wise thing. Keep focusing on God and His Word. He will encourage you daily as you stay in His Word. The most important thing is to keep your relationship with Him strong and close, and not isolate yourself from the body of Christ (other strong believers). It takes time to rebuild trust. God has His own timetable for things, but He does give us wisdom when we depend on Him, and not on our feelings or emotions.

For nearly a year, I have been thinking about making a major career change. I asked God to send me a sign that this path would be the best use of the talents he has given me. One week later, I was at the park with my son & he saw a woman on the hill flying a kite with her daughter. Being five years old, he immediately ran over to admire the kite. Since her child was also five, we struck up a casual conversation. As we were both about to part ways & I thanked her for sharing, she said (randomly), ”I am so lucky to have a job that affords me afternoons in the park like this.” Of course I was now curious & asked what she did. Not only was it the career path I was seriously considering but witin the exact specialty; not a common job at all. It took my breath away. I believe God speaks through others.

God speaks in mysterious ways, doesn’t He? What He speaks to us will always line up with His words in Scripture. God will take care of those who try to harm His children–His way–His time.

I am only 13 years old, but already God has spoken to me in many ways. When I was younger I would draw parts of the bible, especially the story of Moses. Now God really speaks to me I find through other people, through music, dance and through my words. God has truly changed my life and has been with me every step of the way ; through my pain, sorrow, joy and happiness! How has God changed your life?

Kaylyn, thanks for your encouraging words and testimony. Keep walking with Him. And keep sharing His truths!

Im bless by reading peoples comment and encouragement’s. God speak thru me in natural things. I graduated from Bibles school few years ago. i thought God is going to use me straight aways in something big, but not as i thought. So one day me and my wife and up on the road no where to sleep, but we go to our church and pray. we sleep there… to keep the story short… God put you in the journey that you need according to the purpose he made you. now me and my wife are youth pastor….

When we find our new place, i thank God for the journey that me and my wife had.
He take me back to the sink. i was thirsty at that time, so i just get a class and fill up. so i drink but the cup is dirty… i look inside the water is dirty and i just heard someone says, I dont want my children to drink from a dirty Cup.
what i go thru is actually cleaning me.
Sorry for my grammar but spiritual food need to preach.

God bless everyone who read this.

I wonder whether you guys could help me. I have only recently come to Christ after many years of atheism, fading away to agnosticism, until I realised that I was only really feeding into the negativity I at the time associated with it.

I did not trust my mind at all, after having a relapse with drugs which lead to all sorts of delusions (I’m completely off them now and have been for a while, thank God!) I had got out of a terrible relationship and did not know what to do.

I started looking to God, which was very hard for me after so many years. I started speaking to a new lady and asking god to speak to me in dreams and suddenly got all sorts of horrific nightmares (I had literally only just got off the drugs at this point though) which basically seemed to contain violence from me and others and had some horrific imagery, which naturally scared me and made me wonder if god was trying to keep me away from her.

As I knew I could not trust my mind, and had never had any sort of prophetic dream or even anything remotely related before, I decided to ignore it and get with her anyway.

But now I am completely obsessed with the dreams. I have read the above elsewhere too, and in the bible I keep getting conflicting messages, my christian friends seem to tell me it’s all ok, and in my mind it is a constant conflict.

I have absolutely no idea what any of this means.

Oh, there’s been no violence in the relationship at all by the way, unless you include messing around and playing haha. But no actual violence.

Difficult thing is, the dream seemed to suggest the violence unto me would happen if I left the relationship.

I asked Jesus to give me a dream about what would happen if I did not, and I got a dream about a friend betraying me with her. Great stuff.

I’m confused as all hell really.

    47. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on August 24th, 2013 10:01 am

Thanks for stopping by, Jabez. You are in our prayers. We’re praying that God will give you wisdom and discernment through His Word. God says when we ask, He will give wisdom. Often the truth we need has already been written in His Word.

    48. Maxine Wegner on September 16th, 2013 1:03 pm

God is not a person with a voice like ours. So, to say we heard God speak cannot mean that we heard an audible voice. Can you tell me who/what God is? I like Marcus Borg’s explanation on panenthiesm. That makes most sense to me.

    49. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on September 16th, 2013 8:20 pm

God “speaks” in different ways, as I tried to explain in the posts, both part 1 and 2. And the Bible is full of people who heard God’s audible voice. He also spoke through His messengers, as in the angel who spoke to Mary and Joseph. Job and his friends tried to explain God, but they fell short. He “speaks” primarily through His Word, the Bible–His story–and love letter to us, and through His actions when He sent His Son, Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. All of creation bears witness to His magnificent glory. I’m amazed daily that a personal God could love me. I am part of His handiwork–His “poema”–a poem or painting to bring honor and glory to Him. Though I try to describe and explain the character of God in my posts, 10,000,000 words could never do justice to who He really is! And nothing about God (His character, His goodness, His sovereign nature, His faithfulness) makes sense to my finite mind. Not until I came to know who He was through Jesus, who came to show us what God is like–and who He is. But though I will never understand His undeserved mercy and unconditional love, I receive it by faith, and look forward to every opportunity to share that love with others. Thanks for stopping by.

hello :) im senna and im just 12.. but i feel that im going back in my studies .. and i always ask God to speak to me. i was very good in my studies before.. and now im not able to concentrate in my studies nor understand what the teacher tell :’( i am going to get baptized in Friday.. but i feel before baptism i need Jesus to speak to me.. i never told this to anyone in my family.. i feel they might tease me just like a joke or something.. i want to know what i should do.. for God to speak to me .. please reply.. that will be great for me :)

    51. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on September 18th, 2013 11:46 am

Senna, thanks for stopping by. I tried to share in these two blogs, Part 1 and 2 the ways that God makes His will and “voice” known to us. In His Word we can find wisdom and answers for daily life. When there are “gray” areas, we study God’s principles–truth that agrees with the overall teaching in God’s Word. If you are being baptized because you have chosen to follow Jesus and accept His death as the payment for you sin, then you are demonstrating to others through that picture that Jesus now lives in your heart and that you want to live for Him. His Spirit then lets us know in so many ways that we are His children. So He has already “spoken” to your heart as you said “Yes” to Him. I can’t really add more than what I’ve shared in those blogs. Sometimes it takes a greater faith to believe without having to “see” or “hear.” (like Thomas in the Bible). God is faithful and wants to meet our deepest needs. Our part is to trust and obey. You will be in our prayers.

Hi, I just wanted to say that God absolutely does speak to us today.in fact with some He has ongoing dialogue with them everyday. In the times we are living in it would be wise to learn how to hear God’s voice and to obey it also.Of course you need to use wisdom and discernment but nevertheless we should always be seeking and yearning to hear Him better everyday. The enemy of our souls speaks to us also so why would God not do so?If you do not believe God can speak to you everyday and all the time, you are truly missing out!Love,Kerry

    57. Tyquan D Shipp on November 22nd, 2013 12:28 pm

Hello brothers and sisters, ive been going through alot in my life for the last year or so. Me and my soon to be wife have been struggling. We was attending college but the out of state tuition was an arm and a leg. When we moved back i ended up staying in my parents garage. That was back in the beginning of 2012. Soon as i moved there , i started looking for jobs. My fiance found one. But there still wasnt any luck for me. The ending of 2012 my fiance ended up getting laid off. Now we are both unemployed. I started to loose my way . At the 3rd month of 2013, my fiancé had got another job with direct tv . My blessing where starting to seem so short, i was trying to find happiness through hers. I really didnt have anyone that seemed to really care. But one thing that i knew was, that the lord didnt give up on me. I moved out the garage and now im living with my grandmother and my fiancé also.
My fiance is a strong women, she did not have to struggle with me and live and that garage, wondering when things would get better, she has a fully decorated room at her mothers house and rather hadstayed with me in that in that cold garage on a leather couch with concrete. We used to have to get close as possible to keep warm. Thanks honey for being there for me. Im praying for you also.
We are both 20 years old and now staying with my grandmother and since i moved here, my relationship with god has became so much better. I pray alot, i read alot and i connect with him anyway as possible now.

So a few days ago, i got dowb and prayed to the lord, i asked him to lead me to the right direction, and i also asked, why have there been so much struggle in my life. I wake up at about 4 in the morning every morning, and dose back off, but lately everytime ive been waking up, its been prayers and church on my television which it always grab my attention anfd keep me woke for a while. Well lastnight/this morning , as soon as i awake I was hearing the preacher say “put your hand up and close your eye and pray with me, tomorrow you will get your answer from the lord that you’ve been wanting, your pain will stop tomorrow”. This morning I get up to walk my fiancé to the bus stop to go to work, as we are sitting at the bus stop, a lady in all black appears out ofno where with a bible in her hand asking if she can read me a quick scripture , of course. She sat down and the scripture basically read “the lord wants you to know that the problems and struggles i am going through, he;s not the cause of them but he will be the fixture of them. (It was scripture 13 in some part of the bible. If anyone of my sisters or brother know ,can you direct me to it thank you ) and the lady said thanks for letting her share, she was only there for 10 sec top, she stood up and started walking , and when we looked she seemed to vanish out of no where. The other ironic part is that my fiancé never seemed to look at her once but in the corner of her eye she seen black clothing, and usually my fiance would lolk up but she said she dont believe it was ment for her to look but it wasn’t as if she wasnt trying to , just the lord only wanted to grab my attention at the time. Do you believe it was a sign from the lord brother and sisters? Thanks for letting me share. God Bless You

    58. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on November 25th, 2013 10:49 am

Tyquan, thanks for sharing your story with us. You asked about this being a sign from God. I’m not sure what “sign” you mean. God is never the cause of our problems and struggles. And He’s always ready to use them (not necessarily “fix” them) to make us more like Him. Sometimes things in our lives happen to us because of the natural consequences of sin or disobedience in our lives. Other times it may be a test God allows to purify our faith and love for Him. Any words we receive from others should always be held to the light of God’s Word. A couple of questions I think we can always ask God when we are going through difficulties are, “Is there anything in my life that is displeasing to you, any area of disobedience in my life right now?” And second, “What do you want to teach me through this experience?” I believe God will be faithful to show you those things if you draw close to Him and see what He has to say through the Bible to you. A blog I wrote a while back might be helpful to you: http://www.rebeccabarlowjordan.com/five-questions-to-ask-when-youre-in-gods-waiting-room/

When I was young , 13 or so I had a terrible situation involving my mother and was despondent . I went down to a creek near my house one hot summer day no wind in sight . I sat on a log and I prayed and called out to The Lord what I should do about my situation. I asked him if I should do if A. then make the trees blow or B. no wind. It was all I could think of asking The Lord to do. Several moments later out of nowhere on this hot summer day the wind started to blow furiously and swayed all the trees back and forth. I got my answer. I knew the Holy Spirit was helping to guide me then and throughout my whole life.

one day, a guy came up to me and said that God is very happy with me as i got a good heart, he further told me that i have help many people, however, most of them were ungrateful and many have played me out ( sound like Our Lord), He did tell me many other things related to the line on my forehead, etc. i questioned him whether he being a fortune teller and what are his charges, of which his reply was ‘no’. I figured at that time, that God had send his Angle to tell me that what i am doing all this while is pleasing to God. In spite of his comment on people being ungrateful, i will still continue to help in one way or other as Jesus said that he came not for sacrifice, but for mercy and compassion.
After reading your article, i am convinced that God did talked to me through this guy. Thank you.

Hi I’m mike.. I’m not a religous person, but I’m very spirital and do believe in god.. I’ve been talking and praying to god, consistantly for 8 years now.. I experienced a powerful situation, where I was very, very depressed and losted…while trying to cope with my depression, my televion changed channels and an infomercial about depression appeared.. I tried to change the channel, but it didn’t change… The infomercial had 4 character which told their stories of depression.. the names of the 4 characters were the same names of the people in my life that were involved in the reason of my depression…it was amazing!!! What are the odds, right??? Since then, similar things has happen… I sometime think it can’t be possible that god is speaking to me, or why me… My tooth stared to hurt, and I asked god “if he is infact speaking to me in ways that I believe he’s doing, then please stop my tooth from hurting”. 10 SECONDS!!! Later it stopped… Just looking to hear from other people that might have been through similar situation or someone that can give a little clarity.. thanks

      God is good, He listen(s) & answer(s) our prayer(s)!! How ??
      My experience@@Briefly;
I was very annoyed & disappointed one day, for turning down my application to open an Intl bank account as I wasn’t holding some of the their requirements. Upset and annoyed took my way back to work after this incident. Opposite to me is a man(unknown) walking towards me, I haven’t noticed him until he handed over to me a magazine. It boldly reads ” How to manage your Anger” through Bible.!! — God Spoke that day; Telling me not to be angry.

Yes, God speaks in mysterious ways as Sis.Rebecca mentioned. God spoke to me in many ways – Visions, Word of God, through godly people and through Holy Spirit.

Right, if I really want God to SPEAK to me this is what I do. Fast and Humble myself – Confessing my sins and ask for forgiveness. Once that wall of SIN (Weakness), gets separated I will certainly experience the Kindness and Love in full extent you can ever imagine.(Exceptionally- as His ways and thoughts are not like ours (Isaiah 55:8) he may delay in answering to lead us to something good- “Patience+Faith” will work out well!!)

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matt 7:7.

      God Bless.!!

My pastor says no to an audible voice from God. He is one of the fineness teachers/pastor I have ever been under. I personally know the Lord speaks in an audible voice, an inner voice, or a mental impression. I am nothing special, the least of the least, a chief sinner more than Paul but I heard God. In my 26 years since my regeneration I have heard Him or His messenger over 5 or more times. Each time I heard Him, I would say no to myself and try an ignore it, then I heard it again. So I would get on my knees and say, Lord I believe you are talking to me, please in your name Jesus if this is you answer the words you spoke to me. Immediately it came true and without saying it, it was good. It is too long of a story to tell, but this is the way He brought me my wife and she also heard from Him 45 miles away talking to her as He talked to me. With this said, I feel for all of those that has not heard in this way but as you said Rebecca, He speaks in so many ways and His Word, the Bible is one of the main ways. I also believe those that had a radical life before as I did, it seems that we hear Him more. That is just my thought. And each one of you that had no radical life before I thank God for you and wish that on no one. I know this one Sister in Christ that the Lord came in her at the age of five, wow what a pleasant lady. Well she heard my testimony and said wow, I don’t have a testimony like yours. I told her no you don’t want one like me, you want yours. We are all called to the Lord at different stages of our life’s, so I think we all grow as the Lord puts in in our hearts. I am not trying to convince anyone, I know it is true but I will leave this last note. Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” He had spoke to me each time I was “Still”. Love you all in Christ, Tom

I just wish that God would speak to me. For the things I’m going through in my life right now, I don’t think I can go though worst. It gets so hard and difficult at times, that I can cry in my prayers. I lost my relationship of 4years. My mother lost her job a year ago until now. It gets to me every time. Most time I feel like I can’t take it anymore. I have faced the devil in different forms. For example: after my breakup, I found myself looking online for ways to get my ex back and came across people who’s doing spells black magic. I’ve developed an interest in this crazy nonsense at a point I took a step back and asked myself what am I doing? the devil is a liar. I’ve asked God to take over and take control over me because losing someone u love can lead to do things you never thought you’d do. I asked God for forgiveness for even thinking of doing this crazy thing, and to give me strength and courage. I need a lot of prayers and change in my life. I’m thinking of baptism this year, I’m ready to give it all to the Lord, before that I wish he’d speak to me to tell me what to do.
Any positive advice would help a lot. Thanks!

Jesus says in John 10:27: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” God’s “voice” or thoughts He gives us will never contradict His Word and will always bring Him glory. Our own thoughts will always want to glorify self.

Hi. I found God four years ago. It was like an AHA moment where I was home alone, and I would feel a presence. Some would say ghosts, guardian angels, or God. But after so many voices, events, I finally understood, me, the girl who called herself agnostic and Christian by default due to baptism, communion and confirmation said aloud to myself “This must be God. I think I’ve found God.” During that season, I felt like everything in my life was in a perfect flow. Everything was in sync. I had not a bad day in months and life was enthusiastic. Its because I would get feelings of this precense and sometimes voices telling me to do good things. God spoke to me through synchronicities. Thinking of people and them calling. Wanting to compliment a lady on her bag and hours later she ends up 10 feet from me at the beach. I even found a missing child at a festival because God spoke to me through officers who poi Ted to the restroom. A crying lady was in the direction and something told me to ask if I could help. Earlier, I noticed an umbrella similar to mine that was ironically being held by the children’s father who was separated from the mother. When the mother told me she couldn’t find her children, a voice (God?) told me to ask if they had a black and white umbrella. It was a miracle. All these things happening had me convinced this was God. Friends told me I’m pyschic but I felt a presence during those times. It had to be God. However, I now live with a boyfriend who claims to be agnostic. I thi k he is atheist but will not admit it. (his mother forced religion on him and he now wants nothing to do with it). I feel like God doesn’t talk to me anymore because I surround myself with Jake. I don’t believe its because I am a sinner due to pre-martial sex because God spoke to me when we were long distance. But anyways, that’s how I think God or the universe or whatever God is, speaks to me. Through sychronicity, feeling of someone’s presence and inner voices of good.

Okay so Friday Feb 28-Mar 1st 2014 I was at Limitless Youth Convention. I got filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in Tongues. (the hoy spiritual language) I now find myself feeling a very strong need to reach out to the kids in my Youth but I don’t know where to begin and who to start with. I have been asking God to show me who he wants me to start with and I seem to be getting no answer. Anyone have any advice for me I could really use it :) Thanks and God bless you

God will always use us to touch others in small and big ways when we simply show up and be faithful. People will watch our actions as well as our words. And by living out His love wherever we go, whether in speech or in kind deeds, we can bring glory to Him and be a witness to others. He will show us when a simple word is needed, or when someone is really hungry to know more. His love is never forced, but comes naturally from a heart filled with Him.

I was under a lot of pressure, stressed, work, family, decisions, people and even got real sick for two weeks. We had already planned a trip for spring break but a part of me did not want to go. However, I thank God we still went. The second night at the hotel, woke up in Awe.. Because God spoke to me a bible verse straight out from The Bible ( His Word). He set me straight because I was starting to develop anger and He told me to put away all evil talking. I’m so Glad that we do have a Loving Father who corrects us when we are wrong. If I didn’t take this trip then I probably would not heard from Him because my mind was so foggy with the things of this world.

Wow! So many testimonies being shared! I would love to share some of my own testimonies as well!

Mine: Frankly speaking, I am new to Christianity. Before learning about God, I was a Buddhist. I was very curious about the universe, I wanted to learn more about the mysteries of the world.

One day, I chanced upon this Being known as God. I was very curious about Him, so I went to read up some stuff about God. I realise that this God had a lot of enemies, and I was thinking, “Why does He have so many enemies? (fallen angels, false prophets)” I decided to go and visit a church and see what Christians do there.

I asked a friend of mine, whom I knew was a Christian, to take me to his church. I felt nervous at first, because I was walking into a huge group and I was new to everyone. The pastor at the church then held an altar call which I had no idea what it was. I got persuaded by my friend’s relative to go up in front to the altar call.

I went up together with his relative, and the pastor asked me, “What do you want me to pray for you?” As I was new to this, I just randomly said some stuff to get it over with, “…my father and my mother…”

The pastor placed his hand on me and started praying. I was told by my friend’s relative to close my eyes as he started praying. In my mind, I was talking to myself, hoping that it will be over soon without even hearing what the pastor was praying.

All of a sudden, tears rolled down my eyes. I started feeling a warm sensation, something I have never felt before. After the prayer, I went back to my friend and asked him, “How come I would suddenly start crying for no reason?” He replied, “Oh, it’s like that.”

I was puzzled. So God is real? Was that feeling from Him? I had doubts. During the next few months, I carried on going to church, abandoning my Buddhist faith because all I had were nightmares from it. (I don’t want to talk about it)

My friend then introduced me to the Youth Ministry. I was fearful at first, because I was afraid of making new friends, but still, my friend insisted me on going. For the first few months, I couldn’t communicate well with the others.

Majority of the youth there were friends since childhood, I knew I couldn’t get into their circle. I felt like I could never make any friends there, sometimes I even forgot why was I in church.

One day, there was a youth camp during the school holidays, and I had a lot of school projects to do, so I didn’t know whether I could attend.

My friend persuaded me again, so I went. During the camp, we got to play games, attend worship services, and listen to pastors preach.

During one of the worship services, an altar call was held. Many youth went up to the front to be prayed for. I stood at the back and just watched the pastors pray for the youth.

Suddenly, I felt like going to the front to be prayed for as well, but as I was too nervous, I continued standing at the back. One of the pastors then started asking, “Anyone else, who wish to be prayed for, please raise up your hand.”

I thought, “maybe the pastor will walk to me instead, then I won’t have to go to the front,” so I raised up my hand. In the end, one of the youth pulled me to the front instead. I felt a little embarrassed.

As I was standing there with the other youth who had went up, a young pastor exchanged glances with me and walked towards me.
He placed his hand on my shoulder and started praying, and what I heard next really got me speechless…

“God wants you to know that, He knows that you feel you are not part of the family. And sometimes, you even ask yourself, “Why am I here?” He knows that 50% of your heart have faith in Him, but the other 50% is struggling to believe in Him due to your logical thinking, but God wants you to keep believing in Him.”

After that, I started crying, and was overjoyed, because the Lord has spoke to me. Not in my own head, but from another person. No one knows about my problems other than myself, so it was very shocking to me when God exposed whatever I had been hiding in my head.

After the service, I went to apologise to my friend because I felt that I should have shared with him my problems instead of keeping them to myself.

From then onwards, I knew that the Lord was real, and that whatever you are thinking, He knows!

i really want to serve God in truth and spirit but anytime i repent in the next few days i find myself doing the same thing i left previously which is sin i don’t know what to do

    93. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on April 23rd, 2014 1:57 pm

Denny, thanks for sharing your powerful testimony. May you keep growing in Christ daily!

    94. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on April 23rd, 2014 2:00 pm

Nnamani, you are in our prayers. Jesus can set you free from the patterns and power of sin. Sometimes it helps to have an accountability partner–another believer you know who will help keep you accountable and on the right path. Praying Jesus will give you the power to walk in His path, and the desire to stay close to Him, reading His Word daily.

I’m curious to know if I constantly hear the same message over and over in church what does that mean? Ive been praying over a situation for the past four years that I seem to be confused about.

    96. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on May 2nd, 2014 2:35 pm

Dear lovely Aries, it’s hard to answer that question. You could mean the message from the speaker/pastor, or an impression you get from the Holy Spirit. I’m not sure what you mean. I do know that God tells us He will give us wisdom, and that we will hear and know His voice. Keep remembering that God will never tell us something that conflicts with His Word. Ask the Lord to show you what this means, if indeed He is speaking. Read and search His Word. And you will be in our prayers that God will give you wisdom about your situation.

    97. lovely Aries on May 8th, 2014 6:41 pm

Hi Rebecca! I am speaking about my pastor. Where would be a good start? Any suggestions would be great

    98. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on May 13th, 2014 11:11 am

“lovely Aries”, this sounds like something you might discuss with your pastor. As much as we want God to spell out the future for us ahead of time, He doesn’t always work that way. But when we submit our will to Him, seeking to honor and glorify Him in everything, He will lead us one day, one step at a time. When you don’t know what to do, keep your eyes on Him, and stay in His Word for wisdom and direction.

I know I hear GOD I hear lovely music in the sky at times I can go up to a person and say god says something and not now them like this Rebecca there is something that has been on your mind for a while you keep thanking if I should let this go or hold on God says hold on it’s gonna turn around for you . Me I love doing what God what’s me too but I what to know what is a women job to do in the bible I don’t wanna to to much and or too lest and not be pleasing to God what should I do I live everyday to please GOD no one else

    100. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on May 18th, 2014 3:39 pm

Takiea, generally speaking for any woman, I think you answered your own question: live everyday to please God. Show up. Be faithful. The key “job” or privilege for any of us as followers of Jesus is to love the Lord with all our hearts, soul, and mind, and to love others as ourselves. Jesus will work out the specific details for each of our lives, as we look to Him and trust His leading. Keep studying, loving, and applying his Word. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Rebecca. Last night I had a strange experience and would like to know what you think. I woke up at 2 a.m. to use the bathroom attached to my bedroom. As I was sitting there I heard a male voice whisper from across bathroom near mirrors “Sorry”! First thing that came to my mind was sorry for what? Then I wondered who was apologizing? My mind first went to Jesus and God. Then I felt the apology might be for my situation…disabled, lifestyle, and low income. I was once very prosperous and healthy as a horse. I’ve also had all my family members die by the time I was 33 and an ex husband (from 25+ yrs ago) and ex boyfriend (from 20 years ago) die also within last 3 years. I truly don’t know what to think and not sure if God or Jesus would actually apologize. Please let me know your thoughts as I’m very confused! Thank you.

I feel that God is telling me one thing, but my mom says God is telling her the opposite. I don’t know what to believe because she is my mother and I know God speaks through other believers but I feel its nit rigt and know to continie on my path. At the same timw I don’t want to heed a warning from another believer.

    105. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on June 24th, 2014 3:38 pm

Danielle, it’s impossible to share much with you not knowing the situation–and I don’t need to know. What I do know is that God’s Word is truth, and it is our moral compass for all decisions we make. When we have conflicting opinions from those who are in authority, whether it is a parent or other leader, God will never ask us to do something that is immoral or against the principles in the Bible. Other than that, we can ask for His wisdom and truth to be made clear in our minds and hearts. Jesus’ words in the New Testament are helpful study guides for us to discern truth. There is wisdom in counselors, especially for those in authority over us, but God is also the ultimate truth-teller. “Feelings” are not always good indicators. Ask Him to confirm the truths you believe. Hope that helps. And be sure and read the second part of the “8 Ways God Speaks to Us Today” post.

    106. Rebecca Barlow Jordan on June 24th, 2014 3:45 pm

Cindy, first let me say I’m sorry for the losses you have had to endure in your life. I’m sure it has not been easy. I’m not sure anyone can answer your question. I do believe that when God speaks to us, we will know His voice. Jesus says in John that He knows His sheep and they know His voice. And all of us, if we belong to Him, can “hear” His voice through the Bible. He speaks personally through His Word. That’s where you can find His truths, His direction for your life. I can’t explain what you heard, but I can assure you that His voice will be loud and clear when He speaks to you through His Word. He promises wisdom, if we ask.

Hi Rebecca, im writing again because a certain situation is still bothering me….my kids father and I separated due to issues and even afterwards the separation there were/are still issues. I’ve been praying for reconciliation that leads us in the right direction if you know what I mean. Now his parents (mostly his mom) wants the kids to move with them. They have been back and forth between all three households and its driving me crazy seeing as how im their mother and I believe they belong with me. This is all so confusing to me and im really growing weak in my faith however I want to do what God asks and not be disobedient.

I gave my life to the Lord Jesus at a very young age. I became so zealous and passionate for Him. He led and guided my life through dreams which eventually happen almost exactly the same way I dreamt them. I was convinced in the same way of the man He wants for me as a husband. he is born and his love and zeal for God is my major attraction. he too is convinced God wants us to be together. we’ve dated for a while now and about to tie the knot, but his parents refuse to consent to us because I am a year older than he is. they instead want another younger lady for him. he says if his parents insist on our not getting married that we will have to call it a quit.
please I’m in desperate need of counsel cos I have not been emotionally stable ever since. I get worried and tensed every now and then. his parents refusal does it mean it was not God leading us? please advice me. God bless you

      Hi,

Wanted to share a time about 5 years back when I had prayed to God to let me know what changes He wanted me to make in my life.
In a dream one night soon afterwards I heard a voice tell me and spelt out to me in my dream the word RECTITUDE. I had never heard of this word however the next day I looked it up in the dictionary and was amazed and filled with awesome wonder that God had answered me so directly. This message gives me hope every day, and Im still working to embrace it in my life. It means straightness and integrity as an automatic choice response when confronted with a good or bad choice. Hope this gives hope and healing to some others out there.
      In Jesus Name, Peter

    Got something to say?
